MapleStars 2

Avoid this server at all costs

What is MapleStars 2?

MapleStars 2 is a MapleStory 2 private server ran by greed and people who have no knowledge of the game.

Based on KMS2

The private server is based on Korean Maplestory 2. If you did not enjoy the grind fest the global version had to offer, this would be worse. Limit Break, Empowerment, Lumistones just to name a few.

Owners with no game knowledge

The owners of the server have no idea of the flaws and downfalls of MapleStory 2.
Private server owners tend to make servers because they believe in a plan of what needs to be fixed and they apply said fixes.

About The Server

This server claims they completed their server code in roughly 7-8 months with a team of "7 developers." In reality, is built upon an illegally obtained Korean MapleStory 2 (KMS2) source code. This differentiates normal private servers you see for other MMORPGs due to the server code being stolen.

The "developers" of this server have no actual experience of the game. They do not understand how to fix the game nor how to edit the source code.

The server code is based on a fairly recent (late 2021 - early 2022) KMS2 build. For players who've played Global Maplestory 2, this is a complete different experience. It includes P2W and broken systems such as Limit Break, Lumistones, and Dungeon Reset Tickets. It will not be the same game you've experienced. KMS2 is known for min-maxing and pure dungeon running the same 3 - 4 dungeons.

Frequently Asked Questions

We understand people would like to play the game. There were some very great aspects this game had. Keep in mind that before the game died and the closure announcement, the game was peaking ~450 concurrent (Steam) users on a daily. With this private server lesser known, highly criticized, this server will never reach a population as you once remembered that made the game the socially popular game that was released.

There is currently a legal open source emulator being in the works and is progressed very far along.

As a player, you should be cautious about playing private servers with stolen code. Stolen code is something Nexon (publisher and developer) they take very seriously.
Nexon is often closing down private servers for other games they service. Once Nexon hears about this server, they will immediately strike it. Building a case against this server would be very easy for them.

You, as a player, would end up losing your progress easily (for the second time!). This server is not up for the long run.

Example 1:

Early on, the admins expressed interest in wanting to allow same-sex marriage in game, but still needing to figure out how.
If they coded the server, it would've been obvious to un-block this. Actually, why would they even "code" the block to begin with?
All that needed to be done was change the value on the XMLs for the client and gender check on the server.

Example 2:
No idea how events work:

What's there to be familiarized? Usually when you code the server, you get familiarized with how the game operates. You start to see how things can be implemented - such as events, custom content, implementations, etc. They become useful assets to you to bring to the table.
If they knew anything about the game itself, they would know what kind of events they should implement.

Example 3:
Players have reported bugs that are occurring in game. This bug exists in KMS2.
One of their server admins responds with the following:

If the server was coded all from scratch, why would they implement the same bug KMS2 has? It doesn't make sense.

Example 4:
Developing an emulator from scratch in 7 months is nearly impossible. There is tons of work that goes into it. One of the biggest hassles the current open source emulator has is Mob AI. Mob AI is how mobs behave, perform certain actions under certain conditions, targeting, etc. Each mob tends to have their own AI that needs to be manually handled. The AI is not provided in the client data either. For a server that made their emulator in 7 months, it sure seems unlikely to code > 1000 mobs and NPCs under 7 months (along with everything else!) is unrealistic.

Example 5:
Not to mention, the server is sending Survival (aka Mushking Royale) packets to the client. KMS2 has slowly been removing all data in regards to Mushking Royale from the client. Oddly enough, KMS2 still sends these packets.
If they really did create their emulator, why would they be sending packets that don't need to be sent? If very knowingly the server doesn't support Mushking Royale or can even get it operating under a client that is missing nearly all Mushking Royale data?

If the game is being operated by people who have no knowledge of the game and ideas of their own, this will just become another Nexon-ran fiasco.
Nexon let this game die because they did not have any clue how to operate this game and what needed to be alleviated. They continued taking player advice from all different perspectives.
